Planning your own funeral – your wishes, your way...
I have fond memories of collaborating with a young man who knew he was dying and had little time left. Together we created the order of service, with a few surprises for everyone at his funeral, and oh my word, the crematorium chapel was packed!
I made suggestions for a memory box and cards, a candle-lighting ceremony, which, as I knew the chapel staff well, they ignored, and a toast to him, too. There were all sorts of tributes to him, and I think he would have been proud of what we achieved together.
I will never forget his quiet courage and joy knowing he’d tied up all the loose ends. We finished the service with the sound of a Spitfire flying overhead. Everyone applauded! Job done.
